2011 Mileage Achievements / 2012 Mileage Goals & Giveaway

I unofficially set a goal of 6 miles for 2011.  It wasn't a focused effort by any means... I knit because I love to knit, not to consume yarn.  I'm proud to say, I came really close.  I'm sad to say, I'm also a little disappointed, only because, well, I came so close.

So here it is.  I'm setting a mileage goal of 6.5 miles for 2012.  I regard this as a fully attainable goal.  Especially when I take into account that the 2011 goal of 6 wasn't really even considered until I hit about 3 miles.  Setting the goal now will inspire me to focus and get more projects and designs completed.

Do you keep track of your knitting mileage?  Do you set goals?  Comment and tell me about it.  One comment will be randomly chosen to receive a copy of the pattern of their choice from my design collection FREE via Ravelry download.  For additional entries you can follow my blog, "like" my facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/jesseknits, or join my Ravelry group at http://www.ravelry.com/groups/jessica-lheureux-designs (be sure to comment in the Welcome thread).  Be sure to leave separate comments for each additional entry.

This giveaway is open to everyone, everywhere.

Giveaway ends Friday, January 13th at 12:59PM MST.  Winner will be announced Saturday, January 14th.

I can't wait to select a winner and enable more mileage!!

  1. I make "promises to try" so that way, even if I don't succeed at the task, I succeed overall because I did the hardest part - I tried. This year I am going to try and learn a new technique every quarter... that's four new techniques this year. Tomorrow, I am going to take my first stab at colorwork with a Norwegian Snowflake design on a hat... but even if it's an epic fail, I tried and that's what it's all about.

  2. 12 shawls in 2012, and a couple of ongoing KAL's--for a total of 24 projects for the year. But I like the idea of milage.....now I have to figure out how to count it!!!

  3. I always set a goal of beginning a project and finishing it, I also like to try to learn new techniques all the time, a goal I have set myself for 2012 is to knit a lacy shawl.

    1. I love a good lacy shawl. Be sure to come back and post your shawl for us all to enjoy!

I really need to learn from your goals, as do I think a huge population of knitters. All too often I have goals to start projects, but forget that ever important goal to finish them. I'd easily hit my mileage goals if I aimed more on finishing.

  4. I don't set knitting goals -- too much pressure for something that I think of as pure pleasure.

  5. My goal for the year is ... UFOs UFOs UFOs! I'm going to try out the knit meter just for fun this year. No goals as I have no idea where to set the mark and wouldn't want to be too disappointed at the end of the year! Rav amchart

    1. Sounds like your goal to simply try the meter is goal enough! I like goals that include the word "fun"!

I've got a couple UFO's that weren't on my goal list until I read your post. Think I better add them to the pile.

  7. This year I have joined the 12 sweaters in 2012 group. A super high goal for me, as I am a slow knitter, but I'm hoping it will really motivate me.

  8. I love knit meter! I don't set goals, though. And I wish I could compare past year's knit meters.

    1. You can compare past years. Just look under the "create widgets" - you can make one for each year. I think the only reason I started setting goals was because I loved looking at the knit meter total climb.

  9. I never would have thought about setting a goal for knitting mileage. What a neat idea.
My goals this year are to finish or frog all my UFOs, to make something in fair isle (new to me), and make something for charity

    1. I love your goals. I need to add a charity to my goals. I've always been fond of the Linus Project, but never actually done anything for them. I think this is the year.

  10. I do not set goals in knitting. They make me stressfull and I like knitting to be a pleasant hobby for me rather than an other "obligation"

  11. I have set goals in the past. I haven't really thought about it this year. I am trying to use up some of my stash though before I go and purchase any more yarn.

    1. Stash busting and purchase avoidance is one of the goals I've tried in the past and failed miserably... only because I'm such a yarn whore for a pretty color! The husband and I were watching Beetlejuice last knit and I found myself worrying that if we were stuck in the house as ghosts for 125 years... would I have enough yarn. He suggested I might have to unravel a few things and reknit. I suggested buying more just in case.

  12. I don't really have any knitting goals, other than to try and finish one project before I start another. LOL Debbie H gussek on Ravelry

  13. My goal for this year is to not start any new knitting projects until I finish at least ONE UFO! :)

    1. Ahhh, I love it! I'm sure that is a recovering knit-a-holic speaking. I'm sort of doing that right now, except I'm not allowed to start the next one until I finish the current two UFO's.

If we are being monitored by aliens they are very concerned about our "finishing UFO" talk!

  14. I find that I don't really need to set goals. I'm a ravenous knitter and I'm fairly sure my hubby would think I forgot he exists if I set goals I had to meet.

    1. LOL! Ahhh husbands. Mine gave up last year and learned to knit so I'd spend time with him. Brilliant move on his part. Now I know... special time for yarn < or = to special time for hubby.

  16. Super! I was just commenting to my husband last night that I needed to start knitting socks again. I need to add that to my goal list too.

  18. I love people that march to their own drummers and aren't afraid to declare their personality different from the flow. Thank you for laying it on the line and not writing some false drivel just to be part of the giveaway. Happy hobbying!

  20. What a fantastic way to mix things up! I love the idea of using a number generator to select the next project. I feel like that would add surprise and excitement to the process. Brilliant! Thank you for sharing.
